Ransomware Attack

Ransomware Attack

As you are most likely aware, over the weekend the NHS and many other large establishments were hit by a Ransomware attack that caused severe disruption to their infrastructure and a potential loss of data.

Ransomware is a type of malicious software that will encrypt a user’s file system, thus blocking access to it, until a specified ransom is paid to restore the data.

There are a number of ways that an attack of this type can be transmitted however the most common is via email, this usually comes in the form of a link or document that once opened will spread the virus/worm across any connected systems.

This particular exploit was patched by Microsoft in a Security update in March however if you are concerned that your PC is not up to date please contact us on the details below.

We would also like to stress the importance of only opening links and attachments from sources that you recognise in order to minimise the chances of your system being affected going forward.
