As you are most likely aware, over the weekend the NHS and many other large establishments were hit by a Ransomware attack that caused severe disruption to their infrastructure and a potential loss of data.
Ransomware is a type of malicious software that will encrypt a user’s file system, thus blocking access to it, until a specified ransom is paid to restore the data.
There are a number of ways that an attack of this type can be transmitted however the most common is via email, this usually comes in the form of a link or document that once opened will spread the virus/worm across any connected systems.
