As we regularly update and replace hardware for our clients, redundant equipment naturally accumulates and we donate it to Jamie’s Computers in Southampton. By working with Jamie’s Computers, we’re helping to reduce electronic waste, support a circular economy and contribute to meaningful training and employment opportunities within our local community.
The Society of St James established Jamie’s Computers in 2002 as a computer recycling social enterprise. What began as a small workshop, where a volunteer tutor taught clients how to refurbish IT equipment, quickly grew as local businesses started donating unwanted technology.
The Society of St James saw this as an opportunity to create a social enterprise that would not only serve their local community and improve their green economy but also provide training opportunities for their clients.
Over the years, the organisation has grown into a professional service provider supporting corporate clients including Accelerator, Kingfisher, NATS, Cath Kidston, Hampshire County Council and Old Mutual, as well as schools, colleges and universities.
As part of Accelerator’s ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) strategy, we are proud to partner with Jamie’s Computers and donate our retired IT equipment for reuse and recycling.
Today, 23 September 2026, we donated switches, VoIP headsets, cables, laptops, desktop PCs, router modems and telephone handsets. Wherever possible, this equipment will be refurbished and repurposed. Items that cannot be reused will be responsibly dismantled, with components recycled or sold to help raise funds for the charity. The very lovely Jono Powell happily collected the kit
